Herbal Medicine
has been used for centuries to enhance health and longevity, and to prevent and treat illness. Herbs complement acupuncture by helping to correct imbalances and disharmony within the body.
Chinese herbs are prescribed according to how they influence the body's various organ systems. Each
prescription is specific to each patient. A careful review of your medical history and current symptoms, plus an analysis of your tongue and pulses will yield the correct diagnosis and determine the treatment. Prescriptions may contain several herbs, skillfully combined and balanced.
Here
you see my pharmacy where I make individualized herbal medicines.
Herbs consist of plant parts such as bark, roots, berries, seeds
and leaves, and mineral products such as stone and salts. Medicines
may be administered in the form of teas, pills, capsules, liquid
extracts, ointments and/or external washes and soaks.
Some examples of herbal treatments are:
A person with a skin rash may be given an external herb
wrap containing phellodendron bark, rhubarb root and talcum. This
remedy clears heat, stops itching and promotes healing.
A patient complaining of chronic fatigue syndrome may be
prescribed capsules containing the roots of ginseng, licorice
plant and astragalus. This combination of herbs boosts the body's
energy and improves the immune system.
A patient suffering from menstrual pain is often treated with an herbal tea containing Dang Gui root, mother wort and bupleurum root. This helps improve circulation, invigorates blood, stops pain and harmonizes the hormones.
These are just a few examples of the herbal remedies that are used to treat conditions.
