My Treatment Approach:
I personally greet each new patient who comes to see me and have them fill out an extensive personal medical history form. This allows me to conduct a comprehensive medical history and examination so that I can form the most complete diagnosis possible of the patient's condition. Typically, my new patient and I will talk for about an hour, and our talk will cover all aspects of the person's health, including the main complaint, associated complaints, history of surgeries, injuries, chronic conditions, medications, diet, exercise, lifestyle, and mental/emotional states. Chinese medicine is holistic, which means that every aspect of a person's health and life is taken into consideration.
After the intake portion of the visit, I take the patient into the treatment room where I examine the tongue, pulse and any painful areas. If acupuncture is to be part of the treatment plan, I will carefully explain to the patient the process of performing acupuncture, and then proceed with the treatment. The patient will then rest comfortably for up to 30 minutes, during which time I may develop an herbal treatment plan if appropriate. The treatment room contains a one-way intercom, so my patient can call me at any time, whether I am in the pharmacy making the formula, or in my study.
I perform every portion of the diagnosis and treatment personally. I return every phone call to my office from a patient personally. I have chosen to practice in this intimate way and therefore I do not utilize staff; however, I will often have herbal students working in my pharmacy to help me put together formulas.
